German art rockers Can pushed guitar music in some groundbreaking directions during the Cold War, and have partially reunited as Cyclopean with a couple of their long-term collaborators. This four-track EP shows a global scope of new ideas: ‘Fingers’ buries African ethnic percussion in dub techno static; ‘Weeks’ lets oriental drums and chimes compete with melodic house. The Berlin Wall may long have come down but this four-piece are still breaking barriers.
