Jon Egeskov’s work as Pixel has always floated around the experimental end of electronica, but on this fourth album he’s really gone somewhere unique. Infested with insect clicks, tracks like ‘Brown Shirt’ and ‘Line Level’ are the sound of rubber bands tightening around overworked hard disks. The more colourful ‘North Arrow’ adds bass and a shredded analogue beat that mirrors Aphex Twin’s ‘Bucephalus Bouncing Ball’. ‘Mantle’ should be considered the lovechild of IDM and David Lynch’s subconscious.
