Sasu Ripatti’s Vladislav Delay project is in something of a renaissance of late, with newer releases sharing cultural cache with the Finnish man’s influential earlier works. A major part of this multi-part boom has been the Berlin label Keplar’s expansive reissue/remaster campaign of Delay’s (often hard to find) back catalogue. Keplar continues this loving exercise with the 2000 compilation Multila, originally released by Basic Channel’s Chain Reaction label. Composed of a set of other Chain Reaction EPs issued in 1999 and 2000, Multila sees Delay still largely working with the framework of then-contemporary dub techno, albeit from a colder and grainer point of view. The 22-minute techno workout ‘Huone’ nearly swallows the rest of Multila whole, a gargantuan and iconic early track that shows the Finnish man had a masterful energy all his own basically from the jump.

Remaster by Rashad Becker. Vinyl cut by Kassian Troyer at D&M. Artwork by Marc Hohmann.
