Free Reign, the seventh studio LP from Liverpudlian neo-psychedelia group Clinic, is a potent one. This music reanimates the sound of transgressive rock acts of the past - Suicide, Can - and cross-pollinates it with that distinctly British strain of hauntologia which runs through the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, Boards Of Canada, Pram and Ghost Box Records. The final sound that Clinic end up with on Free Reign is a shady, occult brand of Krautrock that hovers next to The Horrors and BEAK>.
