Coming almost fifty years after its release, one of Pharoah Sanders’ rarest albums finally gets an official reissue. Pharoah was released three years after his last album Elevation (practically decades when multiple Sanders’ records dropped every year), and found him entering a new era in his artistry. Dominating the A side, ‘Harvest Time’ floats along with romantic submerged plucks ebbing and flowing beside Sanders’ virtuosic and smooth tenor saxophone performance, while monolithic waves of harmonium drones soon join in. Tropical drums and impassioned vocals colour ‘Love Will Find A Way’, with an extended guitar solo leading to the soaring organs of ‘Memories Of Edith Johnson’.
