Chris Mann and Paul Darking’s short-lived ambient project Blue came on the scene hot almost 30 years ago with a series of EP’s on Andrew Weatherall’s Sabres Of Paradise imprint. Another pair of LPs quickly followed on a different Weatherall effort before the duo seemingly put Blue to rest. However, thanks to some recently uncovered (and perfectly maintained) DAT tapes, a slew of scratched ideas and scaps dating from 1997-2001 inspired Mann and Darking to revisit Blue. After some continued work, the fruit of those sessions are now available on vinyl from Belgium label Souvenirs From Imaginary Cities under the title The Path Of Least Resistance Meets The Point Of No Return. The Path Of Least Resistance hues a bit darker than their earlier work, adding fuzzy slowed down breaks on tracks like ‘She Found The Colours’ and haunting, radar-like sound design on ‘Design & Desire’. The end result is an exciting step forward, and hopefully not the last, at that.
