An enigmatic moniker to match many of their others — such as Cyrus, Quadrant, and of course Basic Channel — Mark Ernestus and Moritz von Oswald reissue some of their little-known Rhythm & Sound cuts on vinyl. 1999’s Carrier extrapolates on the duo’s trademark minimal approach, initiated by the previous year’s Roll Off 12”, and features all the aspects that keep us coming back. The side-dominating title track offers a smoky urban fog, its delay-soaked beat dodging the grid to create a remarkably viscous and organic pseudo-club atmosphere — as is Ernestus and von Oswald’s pedigree.
