Following Khanate’s sudden reemergence with new music this past Spring, Sacred Bones is bringing the drone/doom metal supergroup’s self-titled debut back to wax for the first time since its 2001 release. Comprised of Stephen O’Malley (Sunn O))), KTL), James Plotkin (OLD, Scorn, Phantomsmasher), Alan Dubin (OLD, Gnaw) and Tim Wyskida (Blind Idiot God) the avant-doom supergroup's harrowing mix of guttural, bass-heavy riffage, bone-crunchingly exact drum work, and eviscerating vocalisations, Khanate would’ve sent shockwaves throughout the metal community even without their impressive collective pedigree. Tracks like the nearly 19 minute centrepiece ‘Under Rotting Sky’ are caustic and majestic in equal measure, as influential now as they were over 20 years ago.
