UK drum and bass legend Dom & Roland returns to Over/Shadow to issue the label’s first ever full length LP entitled Against A Dark Background. As its title implies, this LP definitely shades towards darker hues, but Dom’s expert sound design practice, honed over nearly 3 decades in the game, draws plenty of beauty out into the light. Though typically lo-fi in nature, tracks like ‘Clash Of The Titans’ and its running mate ‘Fall of an Empire’ imagine a wide listening field as their skittering amens and bright synths seem to drift out beyond the horizon. Better still is the closing ‘Timebomb’ which retains an almost heavenly glow despite the implied violence of its grim title.
