Following on from their Difficult Messages V/A compilation, Wolf Eyes have swiftly returned to Disciples with their first new studio album in six years. Dreams In Splattered Lines was conceived and inspired in part from their New York Public Library residency, made with custom instruments and the spirit of 60s surrealists. Nate Young and Johnny Olson deconstruct and demolish the conceptual space of song and music, and what follows is a frictional collage of mind altering transmissions.

Dreams In Splattered Lines conjures gothic structures out of its foreboding noises and tones, spiralling staircases leading to surreal sonic architectures. 'Exploding Time' throbs as its drum machines forge onwards, with groaning "mutant reeds" and growling synths dropping in and out in atemporal fashion. The theme of time carries on from the lockdown-induced experiments of their Difficult Messages project, portrayed further in 'Plus Warning' with reverberating thuds, bending and seething signals, and synth surges in between cryptic monologues on the passage of time.

'Car Wash Two' opens like an anti-ASMR track, where a track from the band's Short Hands outfit is layered in a deluge of white noise. 'My Whole Life' turns down a particularly dark and cold route as beats travel through a dystopian landscape, amidst vocal squawks landing like the baby from Eraserhead's malevolent twin in 'In Society'.
