Joy Division’s 1980 follow up to their debut album ‘Unknown Pleasures’, ‘Closer’ sees a vinyl reissue from Rhino. A seminal post-punk masterpiece, etched from unfamiliar levels of emotion, fear and despair – much music since this hasn’t even come close to such levels of visceral sentiment and unhinged obsession. Driven by Ian Curtis' spiralling levels of anguish (he committed suicide only months after the LP was released), the album weaves chaotic motifs, shifting atmospheres and sprawling lyrical sensations.
