Cat Power’s smoky, melancholy musings of love and life have long been a stalwart of the indie underground and so it is with ‘Sun’, her latest album that she reveals a new side to her much adulated musical personality. In comparison to earlier works there’s a definite sense of polish to the album – a more buoyant, strong-willed mood, impeccably arranged and bolstered further by Power’s instantly recognisable, story-telling vocals.
