An impressive investigation into the hypnotising precedent set by Terry Riley and La Monte Young, Patterns of Consciousness treads the same path whilst avoiding the pitfall of mimicking gestures. Using a rigorous mathematical formula to craft the seven pieces here, Barbieri sets controls for the heart of the sun with her captivating synth wizardry. Ranging from full on moments of ecstatic meandering through to more subdued ambient pieces, the album strongly recalls the equally amazing work of Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe.
