Something shifted in The Black Dog on their latest record, rekindling a desire to go back to the old days and a self sufficiency inherited from their Sheffield surroundings that informs The Grey Album. As such, there’s no room for convention on this one, spanning ambient/drone, electronica, minimal techno, and creeping electro rhythms. ‘Ghosts Of Decay’ opens with expansive growls, painting a vast and profound soundscape before descending into the scanning microbeats and rebounding bass of ‘Open Your Head’ and the mechanic beats of ‘Sound Ov Thee Crowd’, with loose wires sparking across acidic synth lines.
