Holy Tongue return to their abstracted and ominous dub explorations as a trio, with Susumu Mukai joining Valentina Magaletti and Al Wootton for the group’s debut album. Deliverance and Spiritual Warfare promises a range of instruments thrown into complex patterns, opening on an imposing note with the marching drums and trumpets of ‘Saeta’ signalling a downpour of murky dub rhythms. In crowds of wooden drums, forceful thuds, and rippling bells are the glistening, watery autoharp plucks and splashes of percussion on ‘Kaneh Bosom’, and anxious jazz spirals on ‘Joachim’ with deep pulled bass and echoing piano keys.
