Bleep

The body has featured heavily in saxophonist Bendik Giske's performances; fitting that his self titled third album should focus on his own. Giske's relationship between body and sound is presented in a visceral fashion, his fingers trot beatingly along the keys as he wails away in intense expulsions of breath. He slaloms through notes with percussive pulsations emanating from the bell, showcasing the bark and bite of brass. At times it sounds like slapping drums or plucked strings have snaked into these pieces, but they are mutations of Giske's deft and dauntless upheaving of the saxophone's conventions.
