Universal reveal a vinyl reissue of Portishead’s classic album from 1994, ‘Dummy’. As classic albums go, this is up there with the best of them, a trip-hop groundbreaker that no doubt defines a decade. Even eighteen years on, it sounds remarkably fresh, an observation no doubt encouraged by producer Geoff Barrow’s minimalist compositions which as time makes evident sound unerringly timeless. However, the real defining presence no doubt goes to Beth Gibbons, one of pop music’s most enduring voices, a celestial force of haunting, fractured cries that will send shivers down spines for years to come.
