Australian producer Material Object debuts on the Editions Mego label with his latest LP entitled Telepath. Leaving behind his former digital-based ambient practice for something more abstract and tactical, Telepath was born from a fruitful improvisation session conducted with violin. Material Object then plucked and pulled apart those sounds, reshaping them into amorphous, sample-like bites of sound that ping-pong across the sonic field on tracks like ‘Hyphae’ and ‘Trnsform’. Material Object’s synth work here also plays with the listener, sometimes enveloping the track whole and others fading into the background like a field recording. Telepath is indeed a unique step forward.
