It’s been a minute since DJ Prime Cuts of Scratch Perverts has dropped a solo record, and his latest Chartist EP is an extroverted stunner. Opening with a daze of synths and rattling techno rhythms, ‘Norwood G’ dives into the deep end as the tempo slows dramatically before accelerating back up to an even more feverish dancefloor level. The imposing electrical slams and slicing beats of ‘Dipped’ foreshadow the even more brutal and guttural ‘Kill Switch’, with overloaded rhythms ripping through, rebounding percussion, and corroded acid synths, leaving off with the dub flavoured synths of ambient closer ‘Storm’ coated in heavy rain.
