Oliver Cherer’s latest album as Gilroy Mere is split in two, exploring sun kissed Suffolk landscapes and the lost city of Dunwich resting in the deep. Opening with mirage-like psychedelic vocals, Gilden Gate’s first half plays like a ride through the coast and chalk cliffs, capturing the magic of the countryside with caramel guitar tones and lazy, sunbathing saxophones. On ‘Greyfriars’ we go under the waves, beckoned by the ghostly siren choirs and tolling bells into a dramatic and mystical underwater world, ending with a poetic spoken word delivered passionately in an ode to the sunken city.
