The debut LP from Christian Loeffler arrives at long last after a string of releases on his own co-founded Ki Records. As with the producer’s previous releases, A Forest is permeated with soft, organic tones intertwined with wistful melodies and atmospherics; leading off with the rounded dub thump of the title cut before shifting into the contemplative ‘Eleven’ where Mohna’s wispy vocals add that extra hovering layer. ‘Blind’ is Loeffler at his finest, beginning with foggy, ambient textures to then develop into a painstakingly beautiful, dub-heavy piece that yearns more and more with every beat. Viewed as a whole, A Forest is everything a full length release should be, underpinned by poignant emotions, revealing more and more of its hidden detailing on each listen.
