Grappling with mortality and musical legacy, Depeche Mode present their fifteenth album Memento Mori. Six years after their last album Spirit, the pulsating basslines, growling grooves, and rumbling beats of their brazen, guitar-led synthpop is at a raw and expressive peak. ‘My Cosmos Is Mine’ opens in an apocalyptic mode, baring teeth with industrial vigour that parts for pop harmony before returning to its haunting intensity. In between scathing walls of guitar shreds and ethereal sparkles is the staccato synth stabs of ‘Always You’, with crushed military grade snares and impassioned vocals.
