German electro producer Blackploid returns to the Central Processing Unit label for his debut LP (and their very first release of 2023) entitled Enter Universe. A continued progression from his prior work on CPU, Enter Universe lays plenty of those classic Berlin-via-Detroit electro sounds on thick, but subtle and rousing tricks and tweaks keep things plenty fresh and innovative. In the hands of other producers, pounding drum workouts like ‘Material Collapse’ and ‘The Mission’ would be content (and perfectly serviceable to DJs) to just spin their wheels, but Blackploid thrillingly throws wrenches into the gears. Whether it’s horror-movie synth lines that seem to burst out of the walls or a mid-track breakdown that sounds like an old-time telephone, Blackploid keeps dancers on their toes throughout.
