Demdike Stare’s Miles Whittaker breaks through the gates for his second release under his Suum Cuique project. Although there are cross wires shared between his work alongside Sean Canty in DS and his solo project, ‘Ascetic Ideals’ first and foremost enjoys a completely analogue approach whilst also revelling in a starker and more acerbic edge. With nods to the transmissions of noise experts Mika Vainio and Eleh, Whittaker indulges in murky malfunctioning (such as on ‘Proton Aesthetic’), conniving techno manipulations (such as on ‘Kuiper Analysis’) and John Carpenter style nightmarish narratives (such as on closing track ‘Dionysus Decay’).
