Vocalist and composer Lucinda Chua returns to the venerable 4AD label with an LP of breathtaking orchestral and ambient pop music entitled YIAN. Translated from Chinese the title means “swallow” while also the second half of her birth name “Siew Yian.” An intense and introspective study in both sound and identity, Chua self-produced and engineered nearly all of YIAN, while also lending a hand in its stunning visual accompaniments which included choreography she adapted from traditional Chinese dance forms. The end result is a stunning treatise in heritage and healing.
