We’ve had to wait patiently for it, but Luke Abbott has turned in his first new material since the widespread acclaim of Border Community full-length ‘Holkham Drones’. Now making his debut on Gold Panda’s Notown, Abbott boasts even more subtlety than what we have previously come to expect from the Norfolk-based artist. Described by Abbott as ‘more digestible … less obtuse’, ‘Modern Driveway’ expels slow and considered breaths, forging a blissful yet tidy electronic pathway set across five cuts. Title track ‘Modern Driveway’ makes full use of gauzy dancefloor grooves while ‘Ovals’ radiates a myriad of miniature twinkling bleeps. Abbott’s analogue synths lend a sense of ebb and flow to what is a wholly cerebral listening experience, ushering him into the elite circle of producers where the likes of James Holden and Nathan Fake stand.
