Genres

‘Repercussions’ is an acousmatic multi-channel piece commissioned by the Groupe de Recherches Musicales (GRM) in Paris for a performance at the Akousma festival. Recordings of percussive instruments (including piano, drum skins, gamelan, metal grates etc) are treated and manipulated to form a dense, non-linear or non-rhythmical narrative). Each instrument is remixed repeatedly to change its sonic shape or timbre and to form new textures from normally recognisable ones. The title of the work is homage to John Cale’s final song on the album, ‘Antartica Starts Here’.
