Grouper’s withdrawn side is once again on show as she unveils her latest two part album, ‘Dream Loss and Alien Observer’. In chronological order the paired albums reveal her trajectory, with 'Dream Loss' being a collection of older songs, and 'Alien Observer' being comprised of new material. This archive shows Liz Harris' subtle moves to keep her anxiety concealed, casting her ethereal voice over the top of dark shadows, twinkling melodies and moments of hallucinatory half-sight. Showcasing just why her name garners such praise in a saturated field full of ambient-pop and hazy distorters, Harris manages to create atmosphere that is as intoxicatingly blurred as it is sophisticated and refined.
