One might think that famed bassist Melvin Gibbs and Editions Mego aren’t the most likely duo, yet the “bass-forward sonics” of his latest solo effort show just how fitting his presence is in this corner of the music world. Born out of a collaboration with Arthur Jafa for his AGHDRA film, with a focus on Black music and creativity in particular, The Wave magnifies the microscopic sounds of low frequency realms, manifesting in pulsating glitches and vibrations, shifting noise, and seismic rumbles.
