The Beats is the soundtrack for the feature-length documentary about leftfield label Stones Throw – it features new originals by LA producer Madlib himself and a collection of recordings that the label and its affiliates have made over the years. Portraying the subversive nature of Stones Throw, The Beats is made up of jazzy, soulful hip hop instrumentals, constantly challenging genre boundaries. Madlib has been one of the most influential figure in its history, known for his many works under different monikers such as Quasimoto or the Loopdigga, and for his collaborations with J Dilla and MF DOOM.
