As the early aughts fashion revival continues to percolate around the world, it’s about time to revisit the soundtrack to the halcyon days. The one group that encapsulates the era best would be UK party-starters Basement Jaxx. Their blend of classic American midwest house and Latin pop (among many, many other genres) is a near perfect blend of the trendiest dancefloor-filling sounds of the era. What perfect timing then for XL Recordings to reissue Basement Jaxx’s first two LPs on vinyl for the very first time in the US. Remedy, their 1999 debut was something of a revelation in its ability to blend hard club sounds with serious pop songcraft. Building off the buzz from acts like Daft Punk, tracks ‘Rendez-Vu’ traded the silkyness of French touch for sultry Latin horns, creating a sound meant for car stereos and proper sound systems alike.
