A new dark child is ushered into the Blackest Ever Black family. Young Hunting, known in the light of day as Marc Dall and Alex Ander, are an ‘experimental musick project’ hailing from Edinburgh. Their debut EP 'The Night Of The Burning' is a sacrificial paean to the gods of gothic ritualism - a highly theatrical yet deliriously restrained arrangement of esoteric electronics and instrumentation set across four tracks. Steeped in decadence, opening track ‘Embers from the Pyre’ submerges the listener in a pool of string-led dread and wailing doom. ‘A Hunger Artist’ is a frenzied choral-based track whilst the calm melancholy of ‘Spiritual Abandonment’ can only be described as trance-inducing. Rounding off the EP is ‘Entrance from the Carnal Mind’ which possesses a troubled, creeping melody that descends into church organ mania. The most arresting element of the EP is the spoken word – swinging precariously between whispers and bellows, the vocals interject and invade the music to exquisitely horrifying effect.
