DJ Stingray’s much coveted WeMe two-part release Aqua Team returns to vinyl for the first time in 15 years on his own Micron Audio. An underwater journey through the banging sounds of Detroit electro, Aqua Team is something like a mission statement from Stingray, setting up moods and motifs he’s returned to and refined in the decade and a half since as the name in electro. Tracks like ‘Star Chart’ and ‘Silicon Romance’ play with the nautical theme, with acidic bass lines that mimic submarine sonar, while ‘Straight Up Cyborg’ is retro-futuristic machine funk at its finest.
