For the (at the time) seeming endlessness of lockdown, there has been an unending stream of music reflecting themes of isolation since the 2020s started. The third album from Warrington-Runcorn New Town Development Plan unpacks precisely that with its quietly throbbing, frozen synth lines, yet it also posits that lonely modern life is embedded in the very core of architectural planning, translating a peculiar suburban liminality with sparse palettes. Cinematic textures of dramatically unfolding synths, walls of drones, and buzzing telephone melodies speak to a desire for what lies beyond the “new towns life” that Gordon Chapman sonically explores.
