Experimental dream team Keiji Haino, Jim O'Rourke, and Oren Ambarchi are back on Black Truffle for their 11th collaborative release entitled “Caught in the dilemma of being made to choose” This makes the modesty which should never been closed off itself Continue to ask itself: “Ready or not?”. A double LP with two separately dedicated sides, the first is culled from remote sessions the trio did in isolation for New York’s Issue Project Room with each member taking on metal percussion instruments or electronics to build some sort of chaotic tranquility. The second side captures a live improvisational performance by Haino, O’Rourke and Ambarchi in full band mode with a much larger range of instrumentation at their disposal. At times dipping closer to the noise rock sounds of O’Rourke’s 90s run with bands like Sonic Youth, the set provides an interesting counterpoint to the first side’s purposeful minimalism.
