Detroit house don Theo Parrish finally lands on the legendary DJ Kicks series with a journey through the storied history of the Motor City sound. Parrish’s tracklist includes all new material from his various guests (a first in the Kicks series), and while most meet him somewhere within his patented and luxurious downtempo groove, there are some clever detours into funk and soul, as well as a star turn from Detroit jazz composer De’Sean Jones. After starting things off on a sensual note alongside Ideeyah, his supercharged gospel number ‘Psalm 23’ headlines the front half of the mix and only for the house-ready ‘Flash Spain’ to steal the show on the tail end.
