West African blues guitar player Vieux Tarka Touré has teamed up with the hotly tipped Texas psych rock band Khruangbin for an collaborative LP entitled Ali. Created in tribute to Vieux Tarka Toureé’s father, the legendary Ali Farka Touré, Ali sees them all reimagine a scattered collection of hits and b sides from his storied catalogue. The end result is a fascinating look at the way music is passed down through generations. Vieux and Khruangbin’s takes on tracks like ‘Savanne’ are both reverential and newly explorative in equal measure.
