Pang is the critically acclaimed third studio album by American singer-songwriter and producer Caroline Polachek. Polachek began collaborating with PC Music producers Danny L Harle and A. G. Cook after her former project Chairlift ended. This resulted in a unique brand of hyper-modern pop, demonstrated excellently on Pang. The track New Normal brings together a number of styles including inflections of country music, whilst Ocean of Tears combines satisfying R&B melodies, lightly processed vocals and a euphoric chorus to grand effect. Polachek’s Pang is pop music that doesn’t sound like much else - with its minimalistic, pared-back use of instrumentation combined with Polachek’s well-honed vocals, its songwriting and arrangement demonstrates maturity through its clarity and range of depth.
