On the second instalment in their V.I.R.U.S. series, renowned producers and composers Alva Noto and Ryuichi Sakamoto mine infinite possibilities out of their minimal sound palette of piano and microscopic electronics. Sounds evoke light shining through pinprick holes, or frost creeping up glass, as Insen finds the two artists exploring the negative space in between acoustic and electronic instrumentation. Reverb tails throw themselves back into the piano chords like a harmonic ouroboros on ‘Moon’, while abyssal thuds and piano strings scraped like knives take inspiration from the sounds of cinema projectors on the previously unreleased ‘Barco’.
