Mr. Hood

Prior to the untimely passing of DJ Subroc and the full transformation of Zen Love X aka Daniel Dumile into a certain beloved ‘Metal Face Terrorist’, the hip-hop trio dubbed KMD, which they founded alongside Onyx, released Mr. Hood. A debut which spawned a precious couple of hits in its time, their 1991 release is an overlooked classic of hip-hop’s golden age, a boom-bap masterpiece loaded with De La Soul-esque humour, hare-brained-street-smart wordplay and a stellar production style, which incorporates many of the dialogue snippets and Saturday morning cartoon vibes of DOOM’s post-millennium releases.

Re-release of this much lauded hip-hop classic, headed by the then Zev Love X, who now records under a plethora of pseudonyms, but primarily as MF Doom. This album was first released in 1994 and immediately attracted controversy over it's cover art. Not too long after its release, one of the founder members and brother of Zev Love X, DJ Subroc, was killed and left disillusionment within the surviving menbers. Zev Love X disappeared for some time, then reappeared under his many guises, including MF Doom. This classic album is an essential item for anyone interested in the history of hip-hop.
