Weaving Indian classical and scintillating ambience with experimental pop and electronica, Punjabi-American sitarist and songwriter Ami Dang muses on the world’s troubles on her latest album The Living World’s Demands. Sitting at a crossroads of scenes and settings, Ami Dang folds manifold influences with ease, threading crystalline beats in between tabla hits on ‘A Muted Crime’ as her smoky voice displays a powerful dexterity. ‘Bālnā’ burns with churning, razed growls as Dang sings of devastation, while sharp snaps of synth and a snaking beat power ‘Betting on the Bull’, with metallic shards of electrified sitar notes and dramatic vocals intertwine.
