French producer Binary Digit makes his debut on the legendary WeMe label with a new EP of scorching electro and acid entitled Xrns Trax. Downplaying some of the thematic darkness usually associated with this breed of machine funk, Binary Digit instead plays up the cheeriness by attaching almost blindingly bright melodies to his skittering drum workouts. The A side’s ‘Maybe Trigger Acid’ holds a striking, siren-like synth chord to open before folding into a chugging hi-hat heavy groove that will surely move dancefloors while it’s B side running mate ‘Acid King Charles Spaniel’ hits the overdrive, running an acidic synth line through a hardcore filter to hit breakneck speed.
