The 27th episode in !K7’s seminal DJ-Kicks series gets turned in by none other than Kieran Hebden. Unsurprisingly, his seemingly bottomless crate of records and sounds got thoroughly rifled through for this outing and the results are perplexing but utterly fantastic. From the moment a largely ambient piece by Austrian composer David Behrman crashes into Syclops’ Mom, The Video Broke- it’s clear we’re not haven’t got an everyday mix on our hands. Hebden journeys into jazz, Madvillan remixes and a conveyor belt of sounds before closing on the unmistakable sounds of Autechre’s Flutter. While he’s often lauded as a world-class producer and curator, this mix provides a case for Hebden’s natural habitat being behind the decks.
