Back from the breakout success of their debut album New Long Leg in 2021, post-punk stars Dry Cleaning present another irreverent set of tracks on their second LP Stumpwork. The band lean into pop structures with a foot grounded firmly in their angular strain of alt-rock, as vocalist Florence Shaw strings abstractly worded asides together over rickety drums, molten basslines, and frazzled, snarling guitars. On ‘Hot Penny Day’, Shaw’s acid-toothed words sting, backed by buzzing instrumentation and banshee wails.
