Christoph De Babalon continues his mission of exacting “gothic jungle” and breakcore heaviness with his latest EP Leaving Time. Here we find subtler strains compared to the full throttle “existential terror” of Hilf Dir Selbst! in 2021: drones move icily with eerie shimmers folded in, yet there’s still room for some breakbeat ruckus. ‘The Upper Hand’ opens with cascading drum machines and an intimidatingly deep, thundering bass, while ‘I Trusted You’ is a patient cut with exhilarating breaks and bass floating through liminal spaces.
