Pioneering French composer Pierre Bastien makes his long awaited return to the Discrepant label with his latest LP entitled Sonic Folkways. With a career that’s lasted over four decades, Bastien has little to prove, and yet he remains as dedicated to musical archaeology as ever. Sonic Folkways sees the artist employing horns, percussion, and strings from all across the globe in service to an expansive sound. Though certainly influenced by classic futurists like Sun Ra, Sonic Folkways’ most out there passages (like ‘Moor’s Room’) are truly on their own path.
