Experimental band Black Dice returned in 2021 with Mod Prog Sic, and key member Eric Copeland keeps the momentum up with his equally zany offering Spiral Stairs, a collection of soporific jams and dizzying dance beats. Whether fronting 60s-tinged guitars or swirling siren sounds, this album knows how to get the body moving; take the opening ‘Restart The Body’, a twisted jukebox tune with erratic progressions that swallows the landscapes of pop and rock and digests them with a smattering of eccentric synths. It’s a nonsensical, leftfield, and ultimately vibrant and fun listen.
