Gavin Blair and Jordan Chung of Equiknoxx have adopted a new moniker of Gav & Jord for the second ever release on the MAL label. MAL is run in part by early Equiknoxx supporter Jon K, so it’s fitting that the duo kick off what’s sure to be a long and healthy run for the newfound label. Meant to be a rule-free excursion from the more rigid dancehall sound they explore with their day job, their debut Writing Ov Tomato LP sees Gav & Jord try on a lot of different sounds to great effect. From R&B and Jersey Club to straight up techno rollers, this record is full of surprises. The biggest of all may be the closing track ‘Brent Bird’, a slice of ambience whose alien synths sound kinda like a pan flute played backwards. Wild stuff.
