Barcelona-based composer/producer Marina Herlop makes her debut on the PAN label with a new LP entitled Pripyat. While known primarily for her beguiling piano work that strikes a balance between the traditional and the avant garde, Herlop is also a student of the voice, and brings a similar scope to her other instrument. Tracks like ‘miu’ and ‘ubuntu’ utilize vocalizations developed all her own but inspired by Indian Carnatic music. These subtle twists on classical stylings combined with digital treatments and percussion slot Pripyat in the long tradition of PAN releases that have a foothold in multiple practices.
