Down & Out is a compilation put together by NTS Radio of private press outsider folk recordings from the US and UK dating from the late 60’s to early 80’s. Despite the anonymity, most of these songs would slot well between the traditional folk stylings of their respective eras and the more familiar sounds of indie rock today. Among many great cuts is David Budin’s flute and piano assisted ‘I’ll Be Gone’ and Jack Lucking’s ‘Death’, which comes across like a gloomy prerequisite to Brian Jonestown Massacre.
